COACHING As the quote above tells us about change, how do we focus all of our energy on building the new, if we are fighting the old and we don't even know it. Socrates said, "To know thyself is the beginning of wisdom". So how do we begin to truly know ourselves? We are run by unconscious programs we aren't even aware of, so our lives are often the same old, same old, and we can start to feel despondent, hopeless and very unmotivated. We often have no clue as to our motivations for our thoughts and our behaviors or believe we are like Popeye's famous line. "I am what I am", meaning we are just the way we are and unable to change. We can be like Sisyphus, pushing the boulder up the hill getting nowhere, only to do it all over again, day after day, week after week, year after year, with no real changes, and then we wonder why bother? I have been in those shoes and now I can say I am wearing brand new ones! Was it an easy transition, I wish I could tell you it was a piece of cake, but healing our wounds can be challenging and does not necessarily feel good, because we now have to feel our feelings! As I have told my clients, "we have to feel it to heal it". As painful as that can be at times, the reward far outweighs the pain, because once we do feel it, we immediately feel calmer inside and we are no longer frantically trying to run away from those parts of us that hurt. And then a whole new life is truly possible and our dreams really can come true.

I said: What about my eyes? He said: Keep them on the road. I said: What about my passion? He said: Keep it burning. I said: What about my heart? He said: Tell me what you hold inside of it? I said: Pain and sorrow. He said: Stay with it. The wound is the place where the light enters you. Rumi
